Artist Glimpse - Mississauga's Jasy
/At only 22, Jasy is shaping a unique sound within Canada’s music landscape. A singer, songwriter, and composer from Mississauga, Ontario, she blends bilingual flair, soulful vocals, and introspective lyrics into something fresh and timeless. From winning Sauga Teen’s Got Talent to placing 5th in America’s Next Top Hitmaker, her journey has been marked by bold moves and steady growth. Now signed with LJP Records and preparing to release her debut album, she’s dropping her latest single, No Idea, Honestly, on October 17—a track that signals a new chapter in her artistic evolution. I’m excited to share a glimpse into Jasy’s inspirations, creative process, and what’s next.
Rob Aguiar – You’ve been immersed in music since childhood—starting piano at 7 and discovering your voice at 12. Who were some of your earliest musical inspirations, and how have they shaped your sound today?
JASY – My biggest inspirations growing up were Janet Jackson, Boyz II Men, Christina Aguilera, and Alicia Keys. I was drawn to artists who blended emotion with authenticity. Alicia and Janet especially showed me the beauty of raw honesty and stage presence. My dad, who was in the music industry, also introduced me to R&B—from songwriting to the artists who shaped the genre. Those early influences still form the foundation of my sound.
RA – In No Idea, Honestly, you explore the tension between waiting for the perfect moment and creating your own opportunities. What message were you hoping to convey, and what do you hope listeners walk away feeling?
J - I wrote No Idea, Honestly at a time when I was uncertain about my future. I felt this constant pressure to control where I was going, which just left me feeling more lost. The song became a reminder to myself that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. We live in this world of hustle culture where we’re told to always know our next move, but sometimes, surrendering to the unknown is the most powerful thing you can do. If you’re passionate about what you do and you keep putting in the work, you’re going to end up where you’re meant to be. I want listeners to walk away feeling comforted by that—to know that uncertainty doesn’t mean failure; it means growth.
RA – From CRIMINAL to BELLADONNA, your catalog shows an impressive range. How would you describe your artistic evolution, and what new sides of yourself are you revealing in your debut album?
J – With every song I create, I feel myself growing more into my sound. I’ve learned how to shape my ideas, build around rhythms and melodies, and really express what I’m feeling in a way that feels true to me. Over time, I’ve become more confident in my voice and in trusting my instincts when it comes to songwriting and production. This album shows a more unfiltered side of me—it’s raw, and honest. It captures all the different sides of life—the highs, the lows, and everything in between. I want listeners to really feel themselves in it, like it’s their own story too, because at the end of the day, we all go through similar emotions and experiences.
RA – In today’s music world, social media can be both powerful and pressure-filled. How do you navigate it while staying authentic, and what role does it play in connecting with fans?
J – Social media is one of the most powerful tools artists have. It lets us promote our brand, share music, and connect with genuine supporters. I’ve learned that staying true to yourself is what makes you stand out. I keep my content original—like studio vlogs that show the behind-the-scenes process. It’s not about likes, but about giving people a real look at my journey. That authenticity builds real connections and keeps fans engaged.
RA – How do you challenge yourself creatively when developing new music, and what’s your process for experimenting with styles or sounds?
J – I challenge myself creatively by constantly trying to push the boundaries of my sound and not settling for the first idea that comes to mind. I like to explore new ways of using my voice and instruments, and I make sure every song has something unique that reflects my vision. When it comes to experimenting with different sounds, my process is pretty unique. I don’t follow a linear path, because my sound is really personal. I usually start by recording vocals and using them almost like instruments– the ambience, the tone, the texture—and then layer in different instruments. I always have a clear idea in my head of what I want to hear, so I manifest those ideas in the studio and bring the sound to life. It’s like turning the music in my imagination into something tangible, and that’s what makes the process so exciting.
RA – If you could team up with any artist, living or legendary, who would it be and why?
J – I’d love to team up with Alicia Keys, SZA, or Zara Larsson. Alicia’s soulful, piano-driven style inspires me. SZA’s vulnerability speaks to me. Zara brings amazing energy and a pop vibe that would be so fun to explore.
RA – With the Blooming Voices Singing Competition coming up and your debut album in the works, what’s next creatively? What can fans expect?
J – Lots ahead! I’m hoping to do more live shows and share studio vlogs, covers, and other content to stay connected. I’d love to collaborate, release a few more songs, and maybe shoot a couple music videos. It’s all about keeping the music coming and giving people more ways to experience my sound and journey.
Jasy’s journey is just beginning, but her voice already carries the weight of experience, ambition, and heart. As she steps into this next chapter, one thing’s clear—Mississauga has a star on the rise.
