Museums of Mississauga's New Exhibit: A History Exposed: The Enslavement of Black People in Canada Launches October 4th, 2025

After being wildly underused to the tune of over 40 years, Mississauga’s Adamson Estate is finally opening its doors to the community to host a new Museums exhibit: A History Exposed: The Enslavement of Black People in Canada.

This travelling exhibit was created by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 with guest curator Dr. Afua Cooper in partnership with the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia.

This exhibition will spend the next four years touring across Canada – Mississauga will be its only stop in the GTA.

A disclaimer on the site says “This exhibition contains images and text describing violence endured by enslaved peoples and documents with racist and colonialist language. This content may challenge and disturb visitors. Adults with young children may wish to preview the exhibit beforehand.”

An opening reception happens October 4 at Adamson Estate from 11:00 a.m. to noon hosted by the Museums of Mississauga and Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko.
